A global leader in artificial turf
FieldTurf is the artificial turf division of Tarkett Sports, which is part of the Tarkett Group based in Paris, France. Tarkett Group employs over 12,000 people around the world and has an annual turnover of €2.3 billion. With over 130 years of experience in creating safe, sustainable, and inspiring products, Tarkett is a worldwide leader for flooring solutions.
Today, there are more than 10,000 FieldTurf pitches around the world. FieldTurf invented and perfected long-pile, infilled artificial turf. We are the company that changed the industry and ultimately became the global leader for outdoor sports solutions.
Solutions developed and engineered for athletes, by athletes.
“Can we make synthetic turf that is equal to or better than the best natural grass?”
This is the question that our inventors sought to answer when creating FieldTurf. Before FieldTurf, natural grass was considered by many to be the best solution for sports fields around the world. Our inventors were not trying to create a better artificial solution; they were trying to replicate natural grass and worked closely with athletes, former players, coaches, trainers, and doctors in order to achieve this goal.
Development included years of trials, tests, samples, equipment innovations and advanced formulas – all with the goal of developing an artificial turf system that combined the performance properties of natural grass with the benefits of a synthetic solution. It worked. That’s how FieldTurf was born.
The ‘FieldTurf’ concept first made its mark in the sports surfacing industry in 1988 with the introduction of a synthetic grass system for tennis courts and a synthetic grass surface used to minimize wear and tear around golf practice tees. The company then began developing synthetic turf surfaces for other sports installations including football, lacrosse, American football and baseball. FieldTurf focused on perfecting a sports field system with a sand and rubber infill, which provided superior athlete safety, high performance and extreme durability. The infilled artificial turf industry was born in 1994, when FieldTurf installed its first full-size football field.
The sports world chooses FieldTurf
Our infilled artificial turf systems were the first to host a UEFA Champions League match, at Luzhniki Stadium (Moscow) in 2003. We are also the proud partners of professional clubs such as FC Groningen and Newtown AFC, and over 70 other high-level football and rugby teams across Europe practice on FieldTurf fields. In North America, our systems were the first to host the NFL’s Super Bowl, the MLB’s World Series, the World Baseball Classic, the Major League Soccer Cup Final and College Bowl games from coast to coast.
